Description

The impact of gentrification on race, class, gender, age, and Indigenous peoples are astutely explored…A first class analysis and tool kit.

Gentrification Is Inevitable and Other Lies is a humane analysis of the many contributing and consequential factors of urban takeovers.I think it is pretty essential reading for people that live in cities but also people who are concerned with housing policies and social justice in general.

An interesting and thorough exploration of gentrification and its impacts with a focus on resisting it. Que aunque no se ha puesto suficiente interés para documentarlo, teorizarlo y cuantificarlo, las victorias han sucedido. Pros: It made me consider cultural capital as a power dynamic in gentrification and how cultural power dynamics in shape personal taste. sure there's lots of other elements and socio-emotional implications but Kern's attempt to almost pit class against race against gender against sexuality seems like some weird, unhelpful vendetta.I read this book on a Friday afternoon, at the end of a week when I started taking hot-girl walks on my lunch hour through Brownstone Brooklyn, and had been counting and ratioing “colonizer” vs “Old Brooklyn” sightings. The rest of us are unaware these listings are forcing families onto the street, all while, a disinterested tourist snaps photos of a Steam Clock and then dares to complain about the homeless. Clearly written and structured, this is a comprehensive consideration of the causes and effects of gentrification. Didn't give this a 4* as it was written in a more academic styel than I personally like in non-fiction. Gotta say I don't think anyone there is worried about gentrification while they're scared of getting shot.

A stunning visual celebration of the model for social housing, the Golden Lane Estate, with commissioned photography, illuminating architectural history of the building and fascinating interviews with residents of the Estate. By the time this book is in your hands, the stories I weave here will have already begun to unravel and be rewoven by others.

En otras palabras, reconoce que la gentrificación es un generada por del capitalismo, pero la agenda que plantea más que ser abiertamente capitalista, juega con soluciones dentro del mismo capitalismo y de baja escala (desde lo local). Confronts gentrification with a multidimensional and intersectional critique, revealing the process of urban 'improvement' as an unending campaign of social exclusion and a biting metaphor for making money.
