Heck, even if you're not planning on reading this book the knowledge of Queen and their music is highly recommended.

Also, putting all of his words on a page really makes you realize how intelligent and articulate of a person he was. Wasnt that enjoyable to read, given the chapters were made up of different conversations had throughout the 70s and 80s. It was an easy read though, and I found it extremely interesting to read something from Freddie Mercury's own point of view. More context and more concise topics may have made for an even more emotional and beautiful story of Freddie Mercury’s life.Mercury was an incredibly private person, but occasionally he would explain something of his personal philosophy in a TV or press interview.

Even if it’s just half an hour of their lives, if I can make them feel lucky or make them feel good, or bring a smile to a sour face, that to me is worthwhile. I really enjoyed this book because I could hear Freddie in my mind speaking - it truly is written i his own words. I also wished that the quotes had been credited; who they were spoken to and especially when they were said would have helped immensely to put things in perspective. Some songs I didn't know and had to watch it on YT and to see him on stage or just listening to his wonderful voice, ahh, made me so sad :( I don't think only fans of Queen or Freddie should read this. The nearest thing to a Freddie Mercury autobiography as it is possible to achieve, “A Life, In His Own Words” is a meticulously assembled collection of moving, witty, and often irreverent quotes from the man himself. This new edition takes the previously pieced together words of Freddie Mercury from interviews and notes and adds to it new information and words that have emerged from the Queen archives. In 2006, Time Asia named him as one of the most influential Asian heroes of the past 60 years, and he continues to be cited as one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music.

Still, this book was what it claimed to be: a memoir style compilation of words spoken and written by the famous Freddie Mercury. This book is a collection of everything Freddie ever has said about his life and his career in interviews and articles and stuff like that. That being said, I really did enjoy just reading his words and thoughts brought out in such a manner. The additional material has been drawn from sources not available or known to the authors at the time of compiling the original work, much of it never before published before and sourced from newly discovered interviews given by Mercury for magazine and newspaper articles that were ultimately not used, as well as from rare radio programmes or Queen Specials found on precious old cassette recordings and reel-to-reel tapes discovered within the Freddie archive. The interviews used were interspersed with other quotes and writings, and are meant to give a more well rounded view of Freddie Mercury.

Unfortunately, the interviews and videos of them, in general, are very bad quality (they're so old), so I decided to read a book about them to find out more and this book is the first one I picked up. Now, remember, this isn't like reading a biography on Freddie nor is it HIM telling us his life so far, talking about his illness etc. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Queen in July 1985 rehearsing for Live Aid: Brian May and Freddie Mercury, with Roger Taylor and John Deacon behind. But I loved the book content so much that it really left me with no other choice than to rate it 5 stars. If this review doesn't indicate how important Queen and Freddie are in my world then I don't know what will! I think this kind of memoir is much, much better than reading a whole "he was born xxx, he went to xxx school". Although at times, some of the excerpts from interviews felt a bit redundant, you could get a sense of exactly what Freddie was feeling at the time he was speaking. In 20 chapters, 194 pages and nearly 73,000 words—and 45 years in the making—Freddie covers it all, and then some!
