There’s no app, there’s no advanced virtualization or surround features, and there are no features dependent on data collection. The VibroLabs have better control in the upper mids/lower treble and also have a slightly more detailed tone and timbre. If you lean more towards the latter, I’d highly recommend the Meze 99 Classics, as it’s just an emotional sounding headphone, but keep in mind that in terms of pure SQ the Sundara is an overally better product, and by some margin. All in all it is efficient, clean, though given its duality—tan gloss and black matte—it nicely skirts the predicable, the traditional. In sum the DX220 splendidly drove the 99 Classics to a higher performance level with a tonality safely ensconced in analog-like musicality, but closer, no doubt, to the neutral zone.

Still, for the audio enthusiast who puts sound and build quality first, the 99 Classics is a classic. The site has lots of product info and a frequency chart that lines up well with what we heard during this review. I have owned two high-end, audio salons, I’ve written for Positive Feedback as an Associate Editor, and I’ve written over 50 reviews for AudioKeyReviews. The material on the hard zippered cases is slightly different when it comes to texture and only the Classics includes an airplane adapter. Barber’s lips come with a clarity and naturalness, that pauses, momentarily, the review process, once again. That is, you can’t help but be mentally affected by the bass so you may think the mids are being bloomed by the bass but that’s not really the case. Yes, they sound better out of a higher-end DAP, but even from my Google Pixel 2 or LG V30, these headphones sounded seriously good.

Solely the Mee audio Air-Fi Matrix² (wired use) and Brainwavz HM2 are about comparable to the Meze in terms of bass quality, but both headphones cost much less. The Meze 99 Classics is definitely more difficult to take out on the town now than in 2016, but it would fit in well at a desk or listening station. The pads are a bit on the smaller side but I have larger than avg ears and never had any comfort issue even with my glasses on as the pads are super soft non sweat prone. You can drive either headset with a smartphone as the Meze 99 Classics has a 32Ω impedance and the 99 Neo has a 26Ω impedance. They offer little protection from external noise, so they aren't the best for use in noisy environments.

I usually don’t comment but this article has the most flashy disturbing horrendous ads I’ve ever seen around the web. There is an openness, generally, associated with far more costly audio equipment and a naturalness that owes itself to the analog old school. The grain is excellent but you can ignore the rather weird dark knot feature at the center of the cup in the main picture, this is a class B unit so you won’t get that on retail units, they simply will not pass the QC.
